MSc Psychology · Diploma in Career & Educational Counselling · 10,000+ Clinical Hours · Visiting Consultant at Arth Medical & Sparsh Polyclinic, Karwar
Swastika Mahalaxmikar holds an MSc in Psychology with clinical specialisation from Kateel Ashoka Pai Memorial College, Shivamogga (CGPA 8.23), and a Diploma in Career and Educational Counselling from the Indian Institute of Skill Development and Training. Her training took her across hospitals, rehabilitation centres, old age homes, schools for children with special needs, and community health settings — environments that taught her what textbooks alone never could.
She was formerly the PGT Psychology teacher and in-house counsellor at Navy Children School, Karwar, where she independently managed the Psychology department for Classes 11 and 12, conducted counselling sessions, and coordinated the Olympiad, Counsellors Hub, and Hope India Talent Search programmes. She currently works as a visiting counselling consultant at Arth Medical and Sparsh Polyclinic, Karwar — serving clients across all age groups, from children to elderly adults.
Beyond her institutional work, Swastika has completed over 50 pro-bono counselling sessions and has served as a resource person for mental health talks at schools, colleges, and community organisations across Karnataka. She holds certifications in Art and Play Therapy, Life Coaching, Positive Parenting, and Basic Yoga Therapy — bringing a genuinely integrative lens to each individual's needs. She has presented research papers at national and international conferences, and has clinical exposure from KIMS Karwar, Manasa Nursing Home Shivamogga, Samadhana Counselling Centre Bangalore, and Manokarma.
The name "Saakshat" comes from Sanskrit — it means "witness." This is not a passive word. To witness someone is to hold their experience without trying to minimise it, solve it too quickly, or make it comfortable for yourself as the listener. It is one of the most demanding and most meaningful things a person can offer another.
Every session at Saakshat begins from this position. Before tools, techniques, or frameworks — there is genuine presence. The belief that every person who walks in has already taken a courageous step, and deserves to be met with warmth, respect, and undivided attention.
Swastika draws on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as a structural foundation, layered with Art and Play Therapy, mindfulness-based techniques, Life Coaching principles, and Positive Parenting approaches. She has also received training in Basic Yoga Therapy from NIMHANS, Bangalore. The choice of method is always client-led — what works for one person may not work for another, and the first sessions are always an exploration of what will genuinely help.
She works at a pace that feels right for the individual, not the calendar. Progress in therapy is rarely linear, and that is not a problem to be fixed — it is the nature of the work.
"The goal is never dependency — it is self-trust. My work is complete when you no longer need me."
